Faculty & Staff

Academy students have the unique opportunity to study with professional artists from national and international companies and institutions in all classes and levels. All instructors have a comprehensive knowledge of tradional techniques as well as a shared understanding of the latest, most effective methods of training. As accomplished, experienced artists themselves, they bring a caring and and up-to-date perspective to the classroom experience.

LISA J. BIBEAU
- Founder and Artistic Director, Ms. Bibeau is a native of Westport, MA and is a graduate of the Hartford Ballet's Teacher Training Program, one of the most highly respected programs to train and certify teachers of the Vaganova style in this country. In addition to her ballet training she has studied jazz, tap and modern dance with nationally recognized instructors. Ms. Bibeau is affiliated with and has performed for several companies including the Hyannis Ballet, Island Moving Company and the Cape Ballet. She has performed a wide variety of roles from classical to contemporary. In 1995, she founded the Spindle City Ballet, Fall River's only non-profit professional ballet company.

JANICE MACDONALD
- Tap, Musical Theatre - Ms. MacDonald has studied in Boston and New York City attending many conventions with extensive training in tap, jazz, modern and ballet over her long and well noted career. In the early 70's Janice established a professional theatre company, Port West Players Dinner Theatre for 6 years before deciding to start a school of dance for children. Over the last 40 years in addition to her school she has choreographed and performed in several theatrical shows all over southeastern New England. She has worked with many well established drama programs at numerous institutions such as UMass Dartmouth, Durfee High School, New Bedford High School, Old Rochester High School, the Fall River Little Theatre, Trinity Repertory, Festival Theatre, Barker Players and many more. Janice started a children's program "named TOAD" (Theatre of Arts and Drama), in the early years at Heritage Park in Fall River, MA. She eventually started her own companies; the "Studio Theatre Co: and "Show Biz Kids", in 1998 which are sister organizations to her long time business and ownership of "Miss Janice's Dance Studio," which she owned and operated successfully for over 40 years. Janice is a member of the National Association of Dance Affiliated Artists and Dance Masters of America.

KRISTEN MELLO
- Children's Division, Jazz and Tap - Ms. Mello began her training with Rosemary's School Of Dance Education in Warren, RI at the age of 4 and has been dancing ever since. She is a recent Dean College Honors Graduate with a Bachelor of Arts in Dance, and a minor in Athletic Training for the care, prevention and treatment of dance injuries. Miss Mello has studied with masters including but not limited to, Michelle Dasilva/Ball, Jill Silverman, Joan Paladino, Kelly Peters, Nailah Randall-Bellinger, Savion Glover, Dianne Walker, Jimmy Slye, Wyatt Jackson, and Missy Lay Zina. She has received numerous awards including Best Dancer in "A Midsummer Nights Dream" from the RI Drama Festival, outstanding choreographer for "Fiddler On The Roof", listed in Who's Who Among American High School and College students. Miss Mello was also the recipient of the NCAA Gold Academic Athletic Award and was a recipient of the Dean College Performing Arts Scholarship. She has been teaching since 1999 and loves sharing her knowledge and her love of dance with others.

MICHELLE SHEEHAN
- Jazz - Ms. Sheehan is originally from Plymouth, MA and has received her BFA in Dance from The Boston Conservatory of Music, Dance and Theatre. She has studied many types of dance such as Ballet, Modern, Tap, Jazz, Flamenco, Hip-Hop, Lyrical and Musical Theatre. Michelle has studied with some of the "greats" in the dance world such as; Edward DeSoto, Jennifer Scanlon (Jose Limon Dance Company), Sam Kurjian, Tony Williams, Clyde Nantais, James Reardon (Boston Ballet) and Clara Ramona. Over the past 23 years Michelle has been a professional dancer, successful studio owner, guest teacher for dance conventions and award winning choreographer. She continues to pursue professional development and inspiration through continued study of dance. She passes on her knowledge, love and passion for dance to students of all ages at several Massachusetts studios. She is looking forward to her first year with The Dance Academy.

ERIN GILDEA
- Ballet - A native of East Greenwich, Rhode Island, Ms. Erin Gildea began her training at Rhode Island Ballet Arts Academy, with continued study at Festival Ballet Providence. In 2003, she was accepted into the Royal Winnipeg Ballet School. In addition to her training at Festival Ballet Providence and the Royal Winnipeg ballet school, she attended summer programs at The National Ballet School of Canada, Pacific Northwest Ballet, the Royal Winnipeg Ballet School and Orlando Ballet School. While attending Butler University, Ms. Gildea participated in two summer seminars in St. Petersburg Russia. As a member of Butler Ballet, she performed a variety of roles in The Nutcracker (Flower soloist, Snow Queen, and Sugar Plum Fairy). She was also cast in Butler Ballet's Performance of Cloven Kingdom, a work choreographed by noted choreographer Paul Taylor. She graduated from Butler University in December of 2008 with a B.A. in Dance Pedagogy. Erin danced with Festival Ballet Providence from March of 2008 until May 2011.

HEATHER BROWN
- Ballet - Heather began her training with Boston Ballet and continued with Ballet Theatre of Boston performing as a member of Youth Works. While attending Beloit College, she was able to continue her study of ballet with Rockford Dance Company of Illinois. It was at Beloit that she began teaching beginner ballet classes to the mostly modern dance population. She has performed a broad range of classical and contemporary works including Nutcracker, Cinderella and Wreath of Memories. She has also choreographed several works for the annual spring fundraiser for Spindle City Ballet.

RACHEL CAVALARI
- Ballet - Ms. Cavalari began her training with Berks Ballet Theater under the coaching of Carol Ennis, and later Gail Sullivan and Cherie Noble. She also attended summer intensives at Richmond Ballet, Boston Ballet, and the Rock School for Dance Education under full scholarship. In 1999, Ms. Cavalari was offered full tuition to the Rock School for Dance Education with dual appointment as partial trainee with Pennsylvania Ballet. She performed in George Balanchine's The Nutcracker, John Cranko's Romeo and Juliet, and Dracula. Ms. Cavalari has also performed in many other classical and contemporary ballets including Alice in Wonderland, Cinderella, Coppelia, La Fille Mal Gardee, Paquita, Sleeping Beauty, George Balanchine's Symphony in C and Who Cares, Cherie Noble's Dvorak Symphonies, and Christopher Fleming's Playball! She performed title roles in William Starrett's Beauty and the Beast and Christopher Fleming's Snow White, as well leading roles as Snow Queen, Dew Drop, and Sugar Plum Fairy in The Nutcracker. Ms. Cavalari has been teaching and choreographing ballet, tap, jazz, and modern dance since the age of 16.
